First the climate in the area around Torrevieja is rated by the WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION (WHO) as one of the world's healthiest. Which means temperate winters and mild summers with temperatures which range between 18 and 25 degrees for most of the year. Originally Torrevieja was a small fishing village set around the 15th cetuary tower known as "Torre-Vigia", the town's inhabitants have been characterised by their friendliness, hospitality and their openness to different cultures infact, nowadays, they are accustomed to living with people from 112 countries.

The number of inhabitants has risen from 16.000 to 80.000.
